Lincolnshire Agricultural Society Celebrates Successful LAS Breakfast Week

291 school children take part in hands-on learning about food, farming and healthy eating

The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS) has concluded another successful LAS Breakfast Week, welcoming 291 students from local primary schools to the Lincolnshire Showground for an immersive programme of food and farming education.

Held from 17th to 21st November, this initiative is designed to educate young people on where their food comes from and the importance of a healthy breakfast, including a range of interactive activities led by farming, food and nutrition professionals. Students took part in hands-on workshops, demonstrations and learning experiences such as:

  • A “Seeded Fruity Bacon Flapjacks” workshop in collaboration with Ladies in Pigs, giving children the chance to create nutritious breakfast treats.

  • “Super Fruity Overnight Oats” led by the food education team at Lincolnshire County Council, exploring healthy, simple breakfast options.

  • A “Farming Story” session, supported by volunteers from the farming community and including a tractor and combine from Peacock & Binnington and Lockwood Estates, where children could climb aboard and learn how grains and breakfast foods link to farming operations.

  • An “Omelette Making” workshop with Fairburn Eggs, together with Egg Stop Heapham, showing students the egg production process in a fun, interactive way.

  • Local partners played an essential role: Lidl donated breakfast produce, Fairburn Eggs supplied fresh eggs, Lincolnshire County Council led on food education, and The Morley Agricultural Foundation provided grant funding to bring the project to life.

Teachers praised the event’s educational value and organisation. Representatives from Frances Olive Anderson commented:

“We were astounded by the amazing level of planning and organisation that must’ve gone into making this such a fantastic, well-oiled learning experience for the children.”

Also in attendance, St Michael’s Primary School in Louth shared their positive feedback:

“Such a fantastic morning, children received excellent educational activities. It was lovely to see a range of hands-on tasks. Very interesting and engaging.”

LAS Breakfast Week forms part of the Society’s year-round commitment to agricultural education by inspiring future generations to understand and to learn more about food, farming and the countryside.
