The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS) proudly welcomed over 1,000 Key Stage 2 students from across the county to the Lincolnshire Showground on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd October to celebrate Lincolnshire Day. The two-day event was a vibrant showcase of the county’s rich heritage, with a focus on food, farming and the countryside.
As a charity committed to educating and inspiring future generations, the Society created immersive experiences for young learners to explore all things Lincolnshire. From hands-on activities to interactive learning zones, the event offered a unique opportunity for children to connect with the land, local produce and the people who shape the region.
Across the two-day celebration, the LAS was delighted to welcome new exhibitors, including Wilder Doddington, to the Lincolnshire Showground. Their interactive session, titled “Leave Nothing But Footprints,” invited children to explore the grounds in search of animal tracks, sparking curiosity and learning about local wildlife through hands-on discovery.
Popular exhibitors, including Ladies in Pigs, Cote Hill Cheese and Good Lookin’ Cooking helped children discover where their food comes from, while teaching them how to prepare and cook Lincolnshire sausages, local cheeses and even pizza. Continuing the 'Farm to Fork' journey, L.J. Fairburn & Son guided students through the “Journey of an Egg,” and Dyson Farming showcased how strawberries are grown year-round right here in Lincolnshire.
Paula Cragg, Education Executive at the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society and event organiser, said:
“Lincolnshire Day is a brilliant opportunity for students to step outside the classroom and bring learning to life. Seeing so many young people engaged, curious and proud of their county has been incredibly rewarding. At the LAS, we’re passionate about helping children understand where their food comes from, the vital role farming plays and the importance of essential life skills that aren’t always taught in schools but are invaluable in everyday life.
A personal highlight for me has been the education around sport and fitness. Lincoln Rugby Club have been absolutely fantastic, and I’ve seen so many children inspired to take up the sport. It’s also wonderful to bring the farm to the Showground with Nunny’s Farm doing an amazing job helping children get up close to farmyard animals. For many, it’s a completely new experience!”
A highlight of the celebration was the involvement of Lincoln City Foundation, which ran two full days of interactive sessions designed to inspire teamwork, confidence and community spirit. As part of their contribution, the Foundation generously awarded 20 match tickets to the winning schools that scored the most goals, giving students the chance to experience the excitement of a Lincoln City FC game.
The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society extends its thanks to all 32 exhibitors and our volunteers who made the event a success, and looks forward to continuing its mission to connect young people with the heart of Lincolnshire.
