Another successful construction week at the Lincolnshire Showground!

CITB-supported Training Group, Lincoln Group Training Association (LGTA) once again took the lead on this exciting annual event, held across three days at the Lincolnshire Showground.

The event brings together a wealth of local and regional employers from across the construction industry, together with providers and other industry specialists, to offer local school students and staff the opportunity to explore the vast variety of technical, professional and trade career opportunities available within the construction industry. Abbey Access played a pivotable role in engaging with the Education sector and this collaborative approach with LGTA provided for another successful Construction Week event.

Steve Taylor, Group Training Officer for Lincoln Group Training Association, said: "Nearly 1,400 school pupils from across the Lincolnshire region tried their hands at a range of construction skills during the three day 'have-a-go' event at the Lincolnshire Showground. This interactive approach is designed to inspire young people to take up a career within the construction industry."

The event is free to attend and demonstrates industry collaboration to encourage the next generation of young people into the sector.

Current full-time college students and Apprentices work alongside employers and providers to support the activities, providing invaluable insights into their own career pathways and aspirations.

Steve continued: "Pupils from year six primary school age upwards took part in activities such as planning, eco building design and techniques, ground engineering, carbon net-zero challenges, 3D clay sculpting, earth structures, mini diggers, scaffolding, road safety markings, industrial waste recycling and ecology in construction".

"Plus, the more traditional trade skills of plumbing, tiling, electrical, carpentry/joinery, plastering and brickwork. To compliment these skills experiences, interactive sessions on STEM related challenges, simulators and virtual reality goggles were also on offer."

Carole Jones, CITB Advisor for Greater Lincolnshire said "it's so important for young people to learn about the breadth of opportunities available to them within the construction industry. This event provides a great platform for them to not only expand their knowledge but also experience the industry too. We have Apprentices supporting activities at the event whose first experience of construction was when they attended the event with their school some years ago".
