Peacock & Binnington celebrate 123 years 23 Mar

Contributed by Peacock & Binnington

Back in 1894, Henry Peacock and John Binnington started their agricultural engineering business, the same year that the Manchester Ship Canal, Tower Bridge and the Blackpool Tower were all opened.

Such feats of engineering were in stark contrast to the farming world that Henry Peacock grew up in. The way we farmed was different, things were more manual. The newly-formed company, originally trading in farm implements, was there at the introduction of reapers and self-binders. The start of the mechanisation of the harvest that is in itself in such contrast to the huge automated combines of today being sold by Henry's grandson, Michael Peacock, the third generation and current Chairman of Peacock & Binnington.

Over the following years the firm has continued to expand and develop new depots to meet their growing customer base. As dealership territories changed over the years, the branches were consolidated to leave the four depots present today - Louth branch in 1970 and Corringham branch in 1987. Peacock & Binnington's commitment to Yorkshire farmers was increased by the more recent opening of the Selby depot in 2007.

Managing Director, Graham Main, said: "123 years later our core business principles remain the same. Peacock & Binnington represent quality, market leading and well respected brands that meet the demands of modern, large scale farming. Our service and parts team have highly trained technicians to continue the quality of back up and support that they have always been a key factor in the success of the company." Quintessentially summed up by our motto, "Proud of our history, excited by our future".

Michael Peacock continues as Chairman today and is still actively involved in the company created by his grandfather 123 years ago. That company has grown to one employing approximately 100 staff in total.

You can find Peacock & Binnington in the Tractor Zone at Countryside Lincs on Sunday 9 April. For more information about the business, just click here.
