2012 is the year to party!

2012 is the year to party!

2012 has seen an abundance of red, white and blue adorning all manner of buildings, city centres and village parks for the numerous special occassions it marks and the Lincolnshire Events Centre’s Epic Centre certainly wasn’t to be outdone.

We were proud to play host to the Orders of St John Care Trust Diamond Jubilee Street Party last week and our Front of House Manager Patricia Richardson joined in with the spirit of the occasion by donning an outfit featuring the three British colours for the day.

The residents and the Lincolnshire team of the Trust were treated to dancing to music of the last six decades, refreshments and a singalong as well as being able to join in with competitions and a raffle.

Tom Wright provided magic at the tables and Dan and his team from the Lincoln City FC Sport and Education Trust invited guests to join them in some games as part of the Trust’s Go for Gold week.

And it wasn’t just the LEC’s Patricia who tailored her wardrobe for the party as there were prizes on offer for the best hat worn by a female resident, the most dapper male resident, the best dressed female carer/staff member and the smartest male carer/staff member – one group even came together as Pearly Kings and Queens.

Another element of competition came in the form of a bake off with cakes and desserts made by each home judged by trustee Jill Hughes – this creative crown shaped cake certainly captured a lot of attention among our staff!

The Trust’s team were keen to thank a number of local and national companies that helped contribute to making the day so enjoyable including Century Plumbing and Heating, Chattertons Solicitors, Danwood Group, Derry Building Services, Direct Energy Purchasing, DW Woods Landscaping, Eclipse Nurse Call Systems, GHM, Lindum Group, Miele Company, Suzanne Florists, J. Wilkins Electrical and YTM Furniture.

We hope that everyone enjoyed the day and are busy thinking up reasons to party in 2013!

WiRE women prove inspirational

WiRE women prove inspirational

Two members of Lincoln’s Women in Rural Enterprise (WiRE) are featured in a new inspirational book by Lisa Cherry.

Sue Ritchie and Rachel Linstead, who take part in the monthly WiRE networking meetings at the Lincolnshire Events Centre, both attended the launch of Soul Journey: The Greatest Secrets to Living the Life You Want at the end of last month.

“Saturday, June 23rd, saw the much anticipated book launch for Soul Journey by Lisa Cherry,” says Sue Ritchie of You Time Coaching.

“While the event took place in Oxford Castle, a prestigious location, Rachel and I are two of the contributors and travelled from Lincoln for the occasion.

“Soul Journey is a celebration of life and of choosing life above all else and features women from across the country, sharing their stories with the sole purpose of hoping to make a difference to others.

“Soul Journey is about recovery, what happens to us when we choose to change and then how we can impact the people around us.

“Soul Journey helps us to understand that adversity can happen to us all but it’s what we do with it that really matters.

“Being part of Soul Journey is being part of the process of change, the sharing of our gifts and a commitment to be the best we can be in the truest sense.  Please come and be a part of the celebration.”

You can find out more about author Lisa Cherry, who also runs Holistic Health and Networking Women, and her book at www.lisacherry.co.uk or to buy a copy click here.

Lincoln WiRE’s next meeting is on Monday, July 9th, from 10am to noon.  Visit www.wirelincoln.co.uk for further information.

It’s All About Gardening!

It’s All About Gardening!

The Lincolnshire Show is only just over for another year but there’s already plenty to look forward to enjoying at the Lincolnshire Showground during the rest of 2012 – not least this weekend’s All About Gardening show.

Running from Friday, June 29th to Sunday, July 1st, we’ve taken a sneak peak at the news section on the organiser’s website – http://www.aztecevents.co.uk/all_about_gardening_lincolnshire_home.htm - to find out some of what our green-fingered visitors have in store for them…

Fullers Forestry
Fullers Forestry and Landscaping was recently awarded Best in Show at the Lincolnshire Show for its garden design with Ed Fuller taking home the Ransome Cup.  Fullers’ services are divided into Forestry, Landscaping and Garden Maintenance and will tailor his work exactly around your requirements.  You’ll be able to find Ed and the Fullers Forestry Team in the Landscape and Design area where they will be happy to discuss plans and details to help your own garden vision come to life. If you have a rough idea of how you want to improve our garden layout, or know exactly what you want but just don’t know where to begin, Ed’s free consultancy will mean you can discuss your plans with an expert and maybe get you one step closer to that vision.

The British Isles Rose Society
The British Isles Rose Society (BIRS) will be holding their first National Rose Show which will be attracting many of the very best national exhibitors.  Fred and Mary Barns, exhibitors from the Lake District, will be joining many of their exhibition rivals including Tony and Alice Bracegirdle from Ramsbottom who have been the national champions for the last 16 years.  The Chairman of BIRS, David Wilce said “We will have a superb display of the very finest exhibits of our national flower – the rose. We have also catered for the less experienced exhibitors in what we have called the ‘Tomorrows Champion’ classes”. In addition there will be a magnificent display of Sweet Peas staged by some of the best regional exhibitors.

Fruit Trees and Herb Plants
There’s nothing more satisfying then growing your own produce and enjoying flavours from the garden. Whether you enjoy growing at your allotment, in your greenhouse or on the windowsill, you can transform your garden into a bounty of delicious food and make trips to the supermarket a thing of the past.  Take the plunge and introduce a Mr D’Arcy’s Heritage Fruit Tree to your garden, with varieties varying from citrus orange, lime and lemon, to classic pear, apple and plum or even try Mediterranean figs and peaches, this local to Lincolnshire exhibitor has a broad and unusual selection of fruit trees. And if fruit trees aren’t your thing, then try local company Welly Boots Garden who will be selling vegetables and bulbs, or discover an assortment of herbs from Cottage Lavenders.  http://www.mrdarcysheritagefruittrees.com/

Flourish Garden Design Team
Cordelia and Lyn are the brains behind the company who met studying at the University of Lincoln.  Both have a passion for garden design, whilst Lyn admits “What excites me about garden design is the variety”, colleague Cordelia agrees she loves spending time in her own garden, so “gets a kick out of helping people to get the same feeling in their own garden”.  Flourish Garden Design caters to a number of services including general gardening, architecture, fencing, lawn, flowers and more, and will tailor their work exactly around your requirements. You can see a sample of a Cordelia and Lyn’s Design and Landscaping at the show which will give you an idea of the services available, or inspire you to create your own landscape design at home.  http://flourish-garden-design.co.uk/

Marron “Made for you Wines”
Hidden amongst the thousands of plants and flowers, the Lincolnshire Garden Show also holds it’s Festival of Food and Drink, a grand section of the show dedicated to local and international flavours where you are sure to find something that tantalises your taste buds. One of the exhibitors which is local to the area is Marron ‘Made for you Wines’, the company specialises in delicious alcoholic beverages where much of the brewing, bottling and labelling is done by hand to ensure a high quality product.  Their product ranges from apple and pear ciders, a variety of wines including raspberry and strawberry, and some exciting new liqueurs, which are available to try before you buy at the show.  Marron ‘Made for you Wines’ really does take the time and care to deliver a flavour that suits you – so prepare for the coming summer and stock up on some tasty drinks that you can enjoy in your garden.  http://www.marroncider.co.uk/

Seed and Feeders
Watching birds flit their way in and out of your garden is even better when they find the space so tranquil, they settle down to nest there. Make your garden the main appeal for birds this year by supplying them with the finest food; Kernel Garden Bird Feeders specialises in just that!  With feeders that cater to every type of garden bird and hold a broad assortment of seeds and nuts, you’re sure to find something that suits your need to feed.  Kernel Garden Bird Feeder will be attending the Lincolnshire All About Gardening Show and showcasing their products, along with hundreds of other stalls selling everything from flowers and furniture, to shears and sheds.  http://www.birdfeedersuk.co.uk/
