Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution
caring for the farming community
RABI has an unbroken 150-year history of providing for the welfare and wellbeing of members of the farming community who are facing need, hardship or distress. No-one knows what lies ahead, especially for those who are retiring from the industry with no savings to fall back on, but RABI may be able to help.
We can provide financial assistance to farmers, farm workers and their families, to help meet everyday expenses. Ways in which we help include:
- Awarding regular quarterly grants and one-off payments to elderly and disabled beneficiaries to alleviate financial hardship
- Helping with applications for state benefits. In 2008 our welfare staff have secured over £590,000 in benefits
- Paying for help on the farm when working farming families are facing a crisis such as illness or bereavement
- Paying for specialist equipment such as stairlifts, electric wheelchairs, and other disability aids to help those suffering an illness, disability or following an accident on or off the farm
- Offering assistance, both financial and practical – such as payment for home help and lifeline alarms – to pensioners who wish to remain in their own homes;
- Where residential care is more appropriate, RABI pays top-up fees. We also own and manage two residential homes
- Welfare staff organise an annual fully-funded beneficiary holiday, with carers where required, at a cost of around £18,000
In 2008, we paid out over £ 1.88 million to 1,779 beneficiaries.
If you know someone who you think may benefit from RABI support, please call the confidential helpline on: 01865 727888 or visit the website www.rabi.org.uk
The RABI continue to rely on kind donations from the farming community, local businesses, NFU branches, county committees, agricultural societies, young farmers clubs, groups, churches and legacies to ensure we carry out charitable work within the agricultural industry. To help the RABI reach its 150th anniversary and beyond we need generous supporters to keep on giving. With the volatile situations the farming industry faces, our work could not be more needed than today.
If you would like to support the RABI, please get in touch with Milly Wastie , the regional officer in the East Midlands either by email milly.wastie@rabi.org.uk or on 07525 323450.
