Discovery Zone and Educational Visits
Not only is the Lincolnshire Show two fantastic days out but its main purpose is to educate the local community on the farming industry. Every year schools bring classes whilst others close for the day and bring the whole school. So if you haven't been before you really should come and join in the fun!
Schools Challenge and Professional Development Day for teachers
Every year 24 schools take on the Schools Challenge where they choose from eight different challenges related to the farming sector. Participating schools receive 15 free child tickets per day and always produce fantastic displays for the two days of show ensuring the judges have a wonderfully enjoyable job of deciding who the champions should be.
The current champions from 2009 are Osgodby Primary School and St. Lawrence Academy, Scunthorpe. With this year's challenges being aligned with Sustainable Schools Framework Doorways there is something for every school to make the visit fun and educational. With limited places and schools coming back year on year to defend their titles you will have to be quick to get a place, but we love seeing new faces and expert support is offered from the farming community to all those taking part.
This year's challenges are:
- Designing a healthy school dinner
- Improving my school grounds
- Buildings and the environment
- Design from nature
- Farming, past, present and future
- Advertising the Show
- Alternative materials
- The "Farmacy" potato challenge
PDP workshops for teachers will be run on the first day of the show. Full details will be added shortly.
