Educating Lincolnshire students on the importance farming 17 Mar

What a successful initiative Tractors into school has been! The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS) and Lincolnshire Young Farmers have been working together to connect students and schools with local farmers to educate the students about farming and the important role the farmer and the Tractor plays in getting food from field to fork.

We have reached the end of this scheme which ran from 26th February until 8th March 2024. During this time we have teamed up with farmers and young farmers connecting them with 25 local schools to talk about what they do and inspire the next generation.

Andrew Ward MBE from Roy Ward Farms Ltd said “Lincolnshire is one of the biggest farming counties in the country. I think I saw that 27% of the nations vegetables come from Lincolnshire which shows the huge importance this has and why it's so important that the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society are promoting farming and food and directing this at children. Trying to reconnect to bridge the gap of the disconnect between generations and get children interested in learning where their food comes from

I’ve been involved in this initiative for years and have been going back to Redwood Primary in Waddington for the last four years. It’s great to build up a relationship with the teachers and staff.”

This year for Tractors into Schools we have visited 25 schools and reached over 2000 students which we think you will agree is an incredible achievement!

The LAS’ new president Ian Walters visited Redwood Primary school in Waddington to see the work our charity does, here’s what he had to say “It’s so important we connect with young people of the county to show them what goes on in the fields of Lincolnshire and to raise awareness of the charitable objectives of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society.” As a charity we are passionate about teaching the next generation about the importance of farming and where food comes from and how great it was to have the president visit one of the schools.

Another of the 25 schools we visited, Ambergate school in Grantham said “All our pupils that attended from Early years to years 10-11 had an amazing time. I would also like to say how GREAT David was, an absolute gem, related to all of our pupils, very patient and informative but on various levels to suit our student’s needs.”

We partnered with several farmers including Phil Stothard and Jamie Butler from Dyson Farming, Andrew Ward MBE from Roy Ward Farm Ltd and David Casswell from Pattingdon Farm as well as young farmer groups including Wragby, Louth, Harmston plus many more. All our farmers are incredibly passionate about bringing learning outside the classroom to students on the importance of agriculture.
