Lincoln to host city-centre half marathon 21 Apr

Local organisers, OSB Events, have confirmed the launch of the Lincoln Half Marathon, which will take place for the first time on 2 October 2016 and is aiming to attract 4,000 runners.

The race hub, start and finish will be at the Lincolnshire Showground, with the closed road route heading into Lincoln, past some of the city's historical highlights and then circling the vibrant harbour of the Brayford Waterfront.

Race Director, Iain Hamilton, said: "We're excited to bring a half marathon race to our home town of Lincoln. Having organised events in and around the Midlands since 1991, it's great that we're able to launch an event here. Our aim is to contribute to the growing local economy by bringing people into the city and raising the profile of the city."

He added: "Along with Cancer Research UK, we will be supporting a local charity which is close to our hearts, The Ethan Maull 'Up Yours to Cancer' Foundation. They are aiming to fund a home in Lincoln where families can stay while their children receive cancer treatment. We aim t support them in their mission to improve facilities for families whose children are affected by cancer."

Lincolnshire Showground CEO, Jayne Southall, commented: "We're very pleased that the Lincolnshire Showground has been chosen as the start and finish point for Lincoln's first half marathon event. This will bring lots of people into the city and is a great opportunity to highlight all that is great about Lincoln."

OSB Events will work closely with City of Lincoln Council to ensure that all competitors and local residents enjoy a safe and enjoyable event.

Angela Andrews, Chief Executive of the city council, said: "As Lincoln continues to rise to national prominence, we will join the many major cities across the country offering a city centre half marathon experience. This will not only provide a fantastic event for the local community, but also attract significant tourist interest to support the local economy as people from far and wide race to take part in a truly unique event."

Pre-registration is now open via the OSB Events website, and you can keep up to date with the latest news via their social media channels on Facebook and Twitter.
